Social Skills Classes - (Schedule of Classes)
Boost! social skills classes closely follow the curriculum written by Jed Baker, “Social Skills Training”. Families and teachers (if applicable) will fill out Baker’s “social skills menu” when registering their children for class. Children will be grouped together based on the skills identified as being relevant to the student as well as the student’s receptive language skills.
Skills will be taught using a technique called “structured learning”. “Structured learning” contains four components: (a) didactic instruction (verbal or pictorial explanation of the skill steps), (b) modeling, (c) role playing with feedback, and (d) practice assignments for outside the group. Skill areas students may work on include conversation skills, cooperative play skills, friendship management, self-regulation, empathy, and conflict management.
Each class session is 90 minutes long. Each session includes a check in/talk time, skill time (following the steps of “structured learning”), snack, game and guided playtime, and a closing/review circle time. All students will have a folder that will include a skill sheet for the week's practice assignment as well as session notes and reminders. A conference will be offered at the end of the session to review progress.
The student/staff
ratio for social skills classes is three to five students with
two staff. For the Summer 2008 Session, each class will meet once per week for eight weeks beginning the week of June 16 and ends the week of Aug. 11 (no classes the week of June 30). Tuition is $600.

In this group, children ages three and four will have the opportunity to work on beginning play skills, understanding and dealing with emotions, and group skills. This class is ideal for children who may not have a medical and/or educational diagnosis relating to social skills difficulties, but do need a “boost” in increasing their social skills. This group will also be appropriate for children receiving ECSE programming as a supplement to work in-depth on social/emotional development.
For the Summer 2008 Session, this group will meet once per week for eight weeks beginning the week of June 16 and ending the week of Aug. 11 (no classes the week of June 30). Tuition is $250.
